One Page Rules (OPR) does these giant campaigns a few times a year. It is a great time to start picking up some of those old armies you missed, or grabbing a new army to paint.
For those who don’t know, One Page Rules is a company that makes Warhammer Light rules. The game is easier to learn, and not as complicated as those from Games Workshop. I’ve played a few skirmish games here and there, and I’ve been leaning towards painting a Saurian Starhost list. I like the look of the Saurians.
The Voidsun Threat is a campaign style book that contains lore and 18 missions. It is not a true campaign, as the winners and losers of the battles don’t matter. As I get older, and learn more about historical campaigns, I would like to see more campaigns where winning and losing matters. You can always add some point restrictions for the losers, or add more reinforcements for the winners as you play through the missions.
One thing I like about this campaign is the pregenerated army lists:
You do not have to purchase the campaign to get access to these lists. They are all freely available on their website. Which of course brings me to the next thing I like about OPR, the army builder and all the rules are essentially free. You can purchase the advance rules for a pittance, but I have never done that. I find the regular rules to be just fine for my gaming needs.
There are a few different tiers. For $13, you can get the pdf copy of the campaign book, and four new hero models. For $67, you get four starter armies consisting of 292 models, and the tiers get more expensive from their on out.
The models themselves are really high quality. I like that OPR does both modular and complete models. For those who like the option of customizing everything, you can do that. For those, like me who hate glue, you can print out the complete models. They are well pre-supported, I’ve never had a failure that I can think of off the top of my head. The models just print. Your mileage of course may vary, as everything in 3d printing does.
Once you pledge, you get everything from the campaign instantly. So you can start printing, and playing immediately. So I’ve got a bunch of Wormhole Plague Daemons on my printer right now.
Honestly, I am super excited to get Poisonzeal on my paint table right away. And I finally got some Fly Riders to play around with.
I have not finished reading all the lore or missions yet, but I’m sure they are high quality and top notch. OPR is a fun little system, and a great way to get started in wargaming, if you have not already played.
Hopefully in the next week or two, I’ll have time to start playing and get some battle reports up.
Nice. I don't play very much Warhammer anymore, nor OPR at all, but it's nice to see the tabletop on Substack.
