It’s been five years since I made this video on a trash-bashed steampunky robot, the Mother of All Volkites (M.O.A.V).
Nowadays, I still build a lot of stuff by hand, mostly terrain, but most of it is constructed very deliberately, with the use of ‘found’ (e.g. junk) items restricted to the greeblies. The last one I made like that was from almost a year ago. Check it out:
Overgrown Sci-Fi Tower
This is a tower I intend to use for the Star Wars Miniatures Battles ‘cavern table‘ I showed previously. I don’t know what it is yet, exactly. It could be a generator, regional shield generator, holo…
Still, making something mostly out of cast-off items is very fun and I would like to see yours. Post a link in the comments to some pictures and include your recipe, what it is, what game you use it for, or anything else you want to add. It can be a building, a piece of terrain, or anything else related to tabletop gaming. The only requirement is that it be mostly made of trash.
I will share my favorite pieces from our subscribers in a future post.
One more. The hills here are discarded styrofoam, once again, just painted brown and covered with glue, playground sand, and static grass. The bunker in the center is...you guessed it, a piece of packing styrofoam that looked vaguely bunker-shaped to me.

They were throwing this piece of packaging away at the office...not sure what it was for, maybe a printer? But I saw a fortress. The bunker on top is made of discarded styrofoam.

Styrofoam packing material is great. These ruined buildings were made from styrofoam corners, flat styrofoam pieces, and cardboard. There are four of them, so you can position them individually or make one big ruined Styrofoamgrad.
